What makes a first date “good”? Well, there is a lot to put into consideration when seeing a guy for the first time in a romantic way. Is there hot chemistry, good conversation, natural flow, etc? Here are 10 things you should look out for during a first date.
1. Does He Pay?
One of the main things you should look out for on a first date is the paying situation. Although for some this is “old school” it is really important because it does draw the line between just being friends vs dating. Further down the line, this can have some leeway but on a first date, the guy should always pay.
2. Is There Eye Contact?
Eye contact is a big first date thing to consider. The eyes say it all sometimes. If the guy avoids eye contact it doesn’t necessarily mean that he is not into you; he could be nervous. However, it is a big factor when it comes to body language and is usually a sign that he likes you, is paying attention and is interested in getting to know you.
3. Is There Flow?
The conversation should have a good flow during the first date. It can be stressful coming up with good convo topics but when there is a vibe between you two, it should be super easy and feel natural when talking. There are also going to be natural pauses in between; that is normal. When it feels comfortable and not awkward though, that’s when you know you click
4. Is There Chemistry?
One of the more obvious aspects of a good first date is chemistry. You shouldn’t want to date someone that you are not into nor attracted to. Are you two holding hands, getting snuggly, wanting to kiss and touch each other, etc? If so, then that is a really good sign that there’s major chemistry between you two.
5. Does He Check His Phone A Lot?
A big, big, thing to look out for on a first date is seeing how often the guy checks his phone. This may be a bigger pet peeve for some more than others, but it generally just means that he is kinda bored and not really into the date as much (not to mention it is kinda rude). If you two are having a good time and vibing really well, he should forget about his phone completely!
6. Is He Being A Gentleman?
Does he open the door for you? Does he walk beside you instead of in front of you? Does he get you drinks vs making you get them? Does he have basic manners? Those are just some examples of being a gentleman on a first date. Again, for some, this may be old school, but chivalry shouldn’t die completely! There are some rules to dating that should definitely stick around.
7. Are You Comfortable?
If you feel nervous or awkward around this guy then it may be a sign that this first date isn’t really what you were looking for. You should want to date someone you can be yourself around and have fun with! Obviously, there could be major butterflies and some anxiety on a first date but after a while, you two should be loosening up a bit
8. Is He Getting To Know You?
This one is a super important thing to consider on a first date. Is this guy genuinely getting to know you, or is he just blabbing about himself the whole time? Are you guys getting anywhere, or just talking in circles about the same stuff over and over? After a first date, you two should have a general idea of what the other person is like, what their interests are, their personality, etc!
9. Is He Moving Too Fast?
A BIG thing to consider is how fast you want this first date to go and what his expectations are. If he is moving at a pace that you are uncomfortable with or is waaay too fast, then you either need to make clear boundaries or remove yourself from the situation. Unfortunately, in today’s society, there is the hookup culture to consider especially if you are trying online dating; sadly some guys just want to lure girls into a one time fling and not expect any relationship out of it.
10. Does He Text You Afterwards?
Lastly, but probably one of the most important things to consider after a first date: does he text you after the date? If the answer is no, then it is likely he was a douche without manners, or that he simply wasn’t interested in continuing. Both outcomes kinda suck but at least you will have a clear answer that he isn’t worth your time.
